How I Create Unique Graphics for My Content: My GetStencil Workflow

Create Stunning Graphics That Bring Your Creative Vision to Life (Without Hiring a Designer)

What if you could build an endless library of professional-looking graphics that showcase your unique creative voice—without spending thousands on designers or drowning in complicated software?

As content creators transitioning from corporate conformity to creative freedom, Ibrahim and I discovered something crucial: words alone won’t cut it in today’s hyper-competitive digital landscape. Your audience craves visual engagement. Your brand demands a distinct look and feel. And your creative spirit deserves tools that inspire rather than intimidate.

Enter GetStencil—the graphic design app that transformed how we express our creative identity across every platform.

Why Visual Branding Matters for Content Creators

Here’s the truth most writing coaches won’t tell you: You’re not just a writer. You’re a Content Creative. And that means mastering visual storytelling alongside your words.

After 30 years in corporate life, I learned that creativity isn’t just about self-expression—it’s your competitive advantage. When you’re building a sustainable creative career from scratch, every piece of content needs to work harder. Your graphics aren’t decoration; they’re strategic assets that:

  • Stop scrollers mid-feed on social media
  • Reinforce your unique brand identity across platforms
  • Transform ordinary blog posts into memorable visual experiences
  • Build recognition so your audience knows your work instantly

The blogosphere demands more than just words to keep viewers engaged. And who has money to waste on graphic designers when you can harness your own creativity with the right tools?

GetStencil: Your Creative Partner for Visual Content

GetStencil https://getstencil.com/ is an intuitive graphic design tool that makes creating beautiful images faster and easier than you’ve ever imagined—perfect for content creators at any skill level.

Combine GetStencil images with photos you take yourself. It’s one of my favourite reasonably priced apps for building authentic visual content.

This styling enhances our reader’s ability to playfully visualize themself as a type of cartoon superhero within our stories.

The IbraDan Creative Visual Workflow

Step 1: Capture Original Content

Ibrahim and I use high-resolution iPhone Pro-Max devices to take quality shots. Then we title and keyword-tag our best in an iPhoto iCloud library > Album.

Anyone can snap selfies of unique people, places, and things throughout their travels. The key? Develop a keen eye, stay alert for unique shots, and create an efficient workflow to manage thousands of images over time.

Between GetStencil and our extensive iPhoto library (any image storage system works), we’ve grown our collection into thousands of unique shots that portray interest and inspiration for years to come—more than enough to integrate into our writing.

Step 2: Apply Unique Effects

We run our favourite images through the Insta Toon app for a distinctive animated effect that shifts focus from ordinary human selfies to render subjects as cartoon characters.

For our IbraDan Creative https://medium.com/ibradan-creative  publication, we process selected raw images through the Insta Toon https://apps.apple.com/us/app/insta-toon-cartoon-art-cam/id1065350253) app using Oil Painting, Full HD,* and Oslo Scene filters.

Animations create unique visual engagement and make complicated concepts look simple. People love simplicity.

Animated styles feel more friendly, trustworthy, and predictable—offering readers heightened emotional connection.

This styling enhances our reader’s ability to playfully visualize themselves as a type of cartoon superhero within our stories.

Our Playful and Organic Design Philosophy

Our playful design style includes semi-realistic, realistic, animated, and artistic elements featuring people, animals, and objects with vibrant colours and fantasy details.

We intend to evoke a sense of fun and informality. Playful integrates beautifully with an organic design style.

An organic design style is a holistic, nature-inspired technique that integrates human and nature-inspired elements: smooth, rounded forms, lightweight constructions, softer contours, and flowing lines.

Why We Customize Every Stock Image

Even though free stock art is what most writers use, we believe—as Content Creatives—it’s wiser to crop, filter, add text, watermark, and apply photo adjustments https://getstencil.com/features/photo-adjustments before adding visuals to your stories.

For example, the images Ibrahim and I use in the IbraDan Creative Medium Publication https://medium.com/ibradan-creative differ dramatically from standard stock art. We’re not saying other choices are wrong—just less distinctive (respect).

Our uniquely styled images differentiate our Medium, Substack  https://ibradancreative.substack.com/, LinkedIn, and Pinterest creations.

So—hey, everyone has their preferred style… what’s yours?

Creativity Matters: Have Fun Creating Visual Content

After slogging through countless writing iterations, there comes a time to grab a cold drink, shift gears, and have visual fun scrolling through your photo library.

Here’s where the joy happens. You’ve heard that a picture is worth a thousand words. So why not add a few thousand visual words using images with special effects to enhance your overall story?

Trust your gut and enjoy compiling unique images. You’ll need 15–30 pics to find that one money shot https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money_shot.

Select two or three images per post—the ones your gut says… “yes, that’s it!”

A post about stress needs images portraying anxiety. One on mindfulness might contain sunsets. A lighthearted, funny story might hold goofy poses… on and on.

If you’re a regular content creator, build an extensive library of hundreds of unique images.

Perhaps you’re a creative nerd like me who can spend hours tinkering with photos—eh?

When I’m a tad ‘spent’ from writing and need a change of pace, I’ll go to my iPhoto library, pour a nice cold Guinness, and lose myself in the creative flow of visual storytelling.
