How to Find Your Passion and Experience Daily Joy (A Real-Life Guide)
Discover What Passion Really Looks Like: My Sailing Story
Here’s a video I created a few years back that shows my passion in action. For me, it’s sailing—and that passion translates directly into pure joy.
I had an absolute blast producing this piece on Apple’s Final Cut Pro, combining my love for sailing with creative video production.
“I’ve shown you my sense of joy; now, feel free to show me yours (No dirty pics, eh!)” ~ Daniel-Ibrahim
How do you express what you love? What sensations do you feel? This is what joy feels like—and you deserve more of it in your life.
It’s my life, and I’ll live it on my terms. I’m blessed enough to do what I want, when I want, with who I want, the way I want, for the reasons I want, as long as I do so with love and integrity. — Daniel~Ibrahim
Understanding Positive Emotions: The 24 Sensations of Passion
Let’s explore Robert Plutchik’s Wheel of 72 Emotions and focus on the 24 positive sensations that fuel our passions:
Awe, Confidence, Contentment, Courage, Curiosity, Ecstasy, Euphoria, Excitement, Gratitude, Happiness, Hope, Interest, Joy, Love, Pleasure, Pride, Relief, Satisfaction, Self-confidence, Surprise, Trust, Wonder, Zeal, Zest
Try this exercise: Identify three sensations that describe your mood over the last few hours.
If you can’t find anything positive on this list, it might signal that something is missing in your life—a topic worth exploring.
We often use the word “passion” in personal development, goal setting, and finding purpose. But here’s the truth: you can select any word from these 24 positive emotions, and you’d be talking about passion.
Why Positive Emotions Matter More Than Money
Positive sensations are critical to any successful journey. To truly succeed, you must understand what drives you—your cravings and aversions. What makes you tick?
Too much of one sensation can become overwhelming, clouding your judgment and leading to trouble.
Positive sensations fuel your ability to go above and beyond in any challenge. Experiencing positive emotions matters more than pursuing money because these emotions bring genuine joy into your life.
Positive sensations define why you do what you do—not what you own or control.
When you embrace warm, joyful sensations, you’ll find yourself motivated toward something meaningful rather than running away from fear or obligation.
The Dark Side: When Passion Becomes Obsession
Misguided passion—crimes of passion, irrationality, short-sighted decisions, blind outbursts, fanaticism, compulsive thinking, rage, and overreaction—is unhealthy. But you probably knew that already.
When any emotion becomes an obsession, you’re OUT of balance. This imbalance leads to burnout at work and can alienate your friends and family.
Obsessing over everything you do traps you in blinders, causing tunnel vision where you focus only on results at all costs—not cool.
“Without my work, I am nothing”—Oh, really? How’s that working for you?
Be mindful that you don’t get so wrapped up in outcomes that you lose sight of the bigger picture. Ask yourself: Do you live to work or work to live?
Finding Healthy Passion: Questions to Ask Yourself
Ask yourself why you love something (or someone) so much. It’s perfectly fine to find what you love rewarding and joyful. However, if you’re chasing an ego boost or social status, that’s a red flag.
Getting lost in something (losing all track of time) is wonderful, but ask yourself: “What else am I besides ‘this,’ and what other parts of my life do I care about?”
I aim to push a few emotional buttons and get you thinking beyond convention or tradition when it comes to living, loving, and learning a proud life on YOUR terms. –Daniel~Ibrahim
Behind the Scenes: My Creative Journey (Circa 2018)
This is one of my earlier video projects from 2018. I compiled raw clips in Final Cut Pro and experimented with lower thirds, transitions, music, and effects. At the time, my focus was on promoting coaching services and sharing my creative process.
That’s what I love and appreciate. I know you, my readers. Let’s keep our content less formal and more engaging.
The Invitation: What If You Said Yes?
I hope these stories inspire you to see the extraordinary in the everyday—wherever you are.
Maybe your "boat" isn't a sailboat. Maybe it's the creative project you've been postponing, the business idea that terrifies you, the life change that everyone says is "too risky."
But here's what I've learned from 'Akiya': The risk isn't in saying yes to the thing that scares you. The risk is in saying no and spending the rest of your life wondering "what if?"
These aren't polished sailing tutorials. They're raw, honest glimpses into what happens when you choose passion over comfort, adventure over safety, and presence over perfection.
I've captured these "Interesting Experiences" using an iPhone or drone throughout my time on the water. Ibrahim is skilled at compiling clips, adding music, and using special effects to create short pieces for social media sharing. I prefer Final Cut Pro, but often post raw cuts to share these spontaneous moments—because authenticity beats production value every single time.
The water is calling. These are the stories of what happens when you answer.
With gratitude, adventure, and a healthy respect for the wind,
Daniel~Ibrahim
Your Feedback Matters: How Did I Do?
Your feedback is incredibly valuable to me, so please share your thoughts. Let me know if this was just another generic piece about passion or if I presented a fresh perspective that’s more inspiring and engaging.
I’ll be honest—it’s a bit of a struggle these days. I’m actively trying to avoid sounding too “Social Work-y” or “Life Coach-y,” but it’s challenging, especially after catering to certain clients in the past.
I’m all about that direct, witty, and conversational tone. –Daniel~Ibrahim
