Kuakata Beach is one of the rare places on Earth where you can watch both the sunrise and sunset over the ocean from the same stretch of sand. This 18-kilometre beach along the Bay of Bengal in southern Bangladesh offers spectacular views, peaceful shores, and a rich cultural heritage that makes it a must-visit destination.

This video showcases raw clips from our visits to Kuakata in 2022-2023, capturing the natural beauty that makes this beach Bangladesh’s second-largest coastal destination after Cox’s Bazar.

Ibrahim and I travelled by tuk-tuk and rickshaw from his family’s home in Alipur Mohipur—a major fishing centre about four kilometres north of Kuakata—to experience this coastal wonder firsthand.

The History Behind the Name “Kuakata”

The name “Kuakata” comes from the Bengali word “kua,” meaning “well.” In the 18th century, Rakhine settlers from Myanmar arrived in this area searching for drinking water and dug wells that still exist today. These historic wells, along with a 100-year-old Buddhist temple featuring a Gautama Buddha statue, can still be visited by travellers.

Best Time to Visit Kuakata Beach

Kuakata enjoys a pleasant tropical climate typical of Bangladesh, with an average temperature of 25.9°C (78.6°F). Rain helps keep temperatures comfortable year-round, but the best time to visit is January through April during the dry season when you can enjoy optimal beach conditions.

Our Experience at Kuakata Beach

Ibrahim and I enjoyed long walks along the shore, taking endless selfies, and meeting with his friends for fresh fish fries at sunset. The peaceful atmosphere and stunning views made every moment unforgettable.

The beach stretches 18 kilometres long and 3 kilometres wide, offering plenty of space for relaxation, family outings, and photography. Whether you’re watching fishermen collect their nets at sunset or simply enjoying the tranquil waves, Kuakata provides an authentic Bangladeshi coastal experience.

How We Capture These Travel Experiences

We’ve documented these “Interesting Experiences” using an iPhone and a drone throughout our travels in Bangladesh. Ibrahim is skilled at compiling clips, adding music, and using special effects to create short pieces perfect for social media sharing.

I prefer using Final Cut Pro, but rarely find the time, so I often post raw cuts instead. Either way, we hope these spontaneously captured videos inspire you.

Dear Friend,

What you're about to experience isn't just a collection of travel videos—it's a love letter to authenticity.

We didn't arrive in Bangladesh with a production crew, elaborate lighting rigs, or a scripted shot list. We arrived with curiosity, an iPhone, and a willingness to see what most of the world overlooks.

Every frame you'll see was captured in the moment—fishermen hauling nets at golden hour, the organized chaos of tuk tuk rides through Dhaka, the weathered hands of craftsmen building wooden sampan boats the same way their grandfathers did.

We didn't stage these moments. We simply showed up, paid attention, and documented what moved us.

Ibrahim and I believe the most powerful stories live in the spaces between tourist attractions—in a $1 barber shop, on the back of a motorcycle winding through villages, in the curious faces of locals who'd never seen someone like me with a camera.

This project taught us that creativity isn't about perfection. It's about presence. It's about trading control for connection, polish for truth, and comfort for the kind of experiences that change you.

Bangladesh gave us raw, unfiltered humanity. We gave it our full attention and respect. What emerged is proof that sometimes the best production value is simply being brave enough to capture life as it unfolds.

The Art of Storytelling: How Bangladesh Transformed My Creative Practice

Ibrahim and I would walk for miles, taking endless selfies and meeting with his friends for a fish fry.  

In Kuakata's embrace, where land meets sea,

A dance of dawn and dusk unfolds so free.
The Bay of Bengal whispers tales of old,
In hues of amber, pink, and molten gold.

Ibrahim and I journeyed hand in hand,
From Alipur to Kuakata’s sand.
A tuk-tuk bumping on the winding way,
To where the sun and moon in tandem play.

This beach, where Rakhine settlers once did dwell,
Dug deep for water, finding life in wells.
Their legacy in “Kuakata” stays,
A name that echoes through the sunlit haze.

The tranquil shore, a stretch of silken grace,
Eighteen kilometers of a warm embrace.
Where sunrise and sunset paint the skies,
A living canvas for our wandering eyes.

The gentle waves lap stories on the sand,
As pilgrims gather, hand in fervent hand.
For Rush Purnima and Maghi’s sacred call,
In Kuakata, faith and nature enthrall.

A temple old, a century has stood,
With Buddha’s gaze upon the tranquil wood.
Historic wells murmur of times before,
A testament to what’s revered and pure.

We strolled along the beach with friends in tow,
For fish fries, laughter, and the sunset’s glow.
In every glance, the vibrant colours blend,
A stunning scene that seems to never end.

So here’s to Kuakata, where the earth whispers,
With every sunrise, every sunset shimmers.

The Creative Objective

To document the phenomenon, not just the location. The objective of this production was to capture the raw beauty of the sunrise and sunset, the peaceful shores, and the cultural richness. We are here to tell the story of the beach so effectively that it inspires others to see the value in sustainable tourism.

The Story & The Scene

The Story: A geographic rarity that exists in only a handful of places on Earth—watching both sunrise and sunset over the ocean from the same stretch of sand.
The Scene: Kuakata, Bangladesh’s second-largest coastal destination. Sacred for Hindus and Buddhists. A pilgrimage site. We focused on the 18km stretch, the sunrise AND sunset from the same sand, the Rakhine wells, and the Buddhist temple.

The Director’s Vision

When you shoot a project, don’t just shoot the location. Shoot the uniqueness. Show the phenomenon, the heritage, the story. That’s where the value lies. This isn’t just travel footage. This is tourism data. By documenting the phenomenon and the cultural significance, we are creating a digital archive of a destination that deserves global recognition.
“Presence Over Perfection. If you wait for the perfect lighting setup, you miss the story. If you wait for the perfect script, you miss the emotion. The ‘perfect’ shot was the one where the sun touched the water, or where the pilgrims bathed in the Bay of Bengal. That’s the shot that sells the story.”

The Production Pipeline

Pre-Production: No scripts. No staged shots. The goal was to capture the “phenomenon,” not just the view. We arrived with curiosity, an iPhone, and a drone.
Production: Captured raw clips across visits in 2022-2023. We used an iPhone and a drone to capture the sunrise, the sunset, the pilgrims, and the 18km stretch of shoreline. We didn’t wait for “perfect light.” We just showed up and recorded the beauty as it happened.
Post-Production: Minimal editing to preserve the raw beauty and natural sound. The footage feels real. It feels peaceful. Ibrahim compiled clips, added music, and created short pieces for social media sharing.
Note: This workflow applies to all video formats, whether hosted on self-hosted WordPress, Vimeo, or other platforms. The focus is on the authentic phenomenon, not the technical specs.
